At Mill Creek, we believe that working with our hands is a therapeutic and healthy activity for all of us, no matter our age.  At our workshops, we work hard to ensure that you learn something new, make a friend, and leave feeling proud of what you’ve made!  Gardening shouldn’t be intimidating – it should be fun & life-giving!

Christmas Market 2017

Build a Stunning Winter Arrangement – DROP-IN!

This is by far our most popular holiday workshop! Freshen up those porch pots and welcome your guests with a festive evergreen arrangement!
 
Drop-in and learn how to make a stunning winter arrangement for your home! You are welcome to bring your own container (whiskey barrel, galvanized bin, plastic pot, etc.) or purchase a unique container from us. The materials included in the cost of this workshop (regardless of container size) are: balsam, fraiser fir, white pine, and cedar boughs, red dogwood, pine cones, & red berries. Additional items available for purchase include small cut trees for large containers, ribbon for bows, burlap, berry sticks, curly willow, hydrangea blooms, & birch branches. We have a limited supply of small cut trees (upcharge of $10 when added to a large arrangement) so please call or email to reserve a tree! You will also have the opportunity to learn how to make a snazzy bow! This arrangement can be enjoyed all winter long – not just for Christmas!

Is your pot too heavy to bring to our greenhouse? Stop in and grab a to-go kit of greens! We will walk you through the process so you’ll feel comfortable when arranging at home!
 
**Those returning with their whiskey barrels or vintage hampers purchased from Mill Creek Gardens will receive 10% off their workshop cost. A whiskey barrel is considered a large container –
remember to reserve your tree!
 
RSVP’ing is not necessary, simply drop-in during market hours! However, to ensure you have a small cut tree for your large container (at least 24″ diameter) please email danielle.millcreekgardens@gmail.com to reserve your tree! The cost of this workshop will be due the day of the workshop.
Paper White Bulb Planting – DROP-IN

What better way to decorate your home for Christmas than with bright, living decor! Bulbs & natural decor are coming into style with vengeance, friends! Take this opportunity to plant a pot of paperwhite bulbs and discover the joy of watching them grow indoors! Paperwhites also make unique & charming gifts that bloom for many weeks! These bulbs couldn’t be easier to grow and care for so, no greenthumb necessary!
 
The cost of this workshop includes all you’ll need for this project: one terra cotta pot, 3 paperwhite bulbs, small stones, dirt, moss, & care instructions to take home. Additional bulbs will be available for purchase.
 
Paperwhites typically bloom within 4-6 weeks of planting and last 4-6 weeks so you’re sure to have blooms during Christmas.
This is a great hands-on project to do with friends or kids!

Make Your Own Hand-tied Wreath

*Dec. 8 workshop located at Main Street Marshfield’s Christmas Market (401 S. Central, Marshfield).  All other wreath workshops (Nov. 25 & Dec. 3) will take place at Mill Creek Gardens’ greenhouse!

There is something about working with our hands and learning something new that calms our heart & mind! The holiday season can be a stressful time for many of us, so we encourage you to grab a friend & make a wreath together. Give it as a gift or proudly display it on the door of your own home!
 
At this workshop, you will learn the therapeutic technique of making a hand-tied evergreen wreath. We will guide you through the step-by-step process & will offer unique design ideas! You will also have the opportunity to learn how to tie a puffy bow for your wreath.
 
The cost of this workshop includes a 25-inch wreath frame, mixed boughs (balsam, fraser fir, white pine, & cedar), pine cones & berries. Additional materials like a puffy bow, eucalyptus & dried hydrangea blooms will be available for purchase (at a reasonable price, of course!). The cost of this workshop will be due the day of the workshop.

Wisconsin Succulent Planter
December 2, 2017

Cost: $55

Show your love for our great state by planting a Wisconsin-shaped succulent planter! These planters stand on their own on a counter or desk and can be hung on a wall. This project can’t get anymore local – wood from wisconsin trees, built by a local carpenter, and planted with succulents grown in Marshfield! What a great gift for the succulent lover in your life! Remember, succulents do very well indoors during the winter months!

The cost of this workshop includes one wood wisconsin planter (11in x 10in), 6 succulent plants, & moss to plant your succulents in. Additional succulents & cactus will be available for purchase. Mill Creek Gardens’ staff will walk you through the steps of planting & will make sure you know how to take care of your new plants!

The cost of this workshop & any additional items will be due on the day of the workshop.

Pine Cone Succulent Ornament – DROP-IN

We love huge pinecones & succulents! So, why not combine them to make a cute ornament! Enjoy it on your tree or give to a friend. Better yet, keep one and give two away!
 
The cost of this workshop includes 1 large pine cone (natural, frosted, or painted), moss to plant your succulents in, & living succulent cuttings. We will work with you while you create and will discuss how to care for your succulent pine cone! The cost of this workshop will be due the day of the workshop.
 
WHY WE LOVE THIS PROJECT: When the holidays have passed, you will learn how to remove the succulents from your pine cone and in turn, plant a new succulent garden! Not only will you have an adorable & unique ornament for your tree, BUT you will also gain a new succulent garden!

Fall 2017

Fall Planter Workshop – Drop-in!
September 9th – from 10am – 4pm

Cost: $5/planter

Drop-in during business hours and create a festive fall arrangement for your front door! At this workshop, Mill Creek Gardens staff will guide as you pick out fall plants to fill your container – mums, ornamental peppers & kale, grass, & ivy. While planting, we will discuss care strategies to keep your fall plants looking stunning until frost! You are welcome to bring your own pot and unique containers will be available for purchase.

The cost of this workshop includes potting soil, a discount on purchased plants (exclusively for workshop participants), & expert instruction on plant care.

Are you looking to fill your whiskey barrel again this fall?! Show us a picture of your whiskey barrel (purchased from Mill Creek Gardens) from last fall or this summer and we will offer you a discount on purchased mums as well! You will also receive a voucher for a free corn stock and pumpkin! Feel free to bring your barrel to plant at the greenhouse, or pick-up the materials & plant at home!

Pumpkin Succulent Planter – Drop in!

Grab a friend and drop-in during our business hours and plant your own pumpkin with succulents! This unique & festive project can serve as an adorable centerpiece on your table or a nice addition to your porch.

The cost of this workshop includes 1 pumpkin (size of your choice), moss to plant your succulents in, & succulent cuttings (number of cuttings depends on size of pumpkin you choose). Additional cuttings will be available for purchase. Mill Creek Gardens’ staff will work with you every step of the way & discuss how to care for your succulent pumpkin.

The BEST PART OF THIS WORKSHOP: once fall has ended, you will learn how to remove the succuents from your pumpkin and in turn, plant a new succulent garden! Not only will you have a succulent pumpkin for fall, but you will also gain a new succulent garden later on!

The cost of this workshop is due on the day of the workshop. Purchases cannot be combined to make pumpkin set. To receive the set discount, an individual must purchase & take home the full set.

Building the Perfect Planter

Join us for a fun & interactive 2-hour workshop where you will learn to create a beautiful planter to accent your home! At this workshop, Mill Creek Gardens’ staff will offer great choices for sun & shade areas and share tips on how to keep your flowers blooming through fall.  You will also learn about new flower varieties, latest trends, & how to integrate them into your planter.  You are welcome to bring your own pot and pots will also be available for purchase.  The commercial grade slow-release fertilizer & pesticide (both included in cost of workshop) will give your planter the jump-start & protection it needs to thrive through the season!

The cost of the workshop includes potting soil, slow-release fertilizer, pesticide, storage, care until warmer weather, expert instruction, & refreshments.  We recommend planter pick-up around Memorial Day – you’ll be amazed to see your beautiful full planters! The cost of the workshop & plants will be due on the day of the workshop.

Living Succulent Wreath

Please join us for a fun & creative workshop to make your very own living succulent wreath.  These succulent wreaths thrive through the summer & can be overwintered indoors to be enjoyed for many seasons to come!  The cost of this workshop includes a wire wreath frame, sphagnum moss, succulent cuttings (enough to pack that sucker full!), step-by-step instruction & refreshments.  Mill Creek Gardens will store & care for your wreath at no additional charge until the first week in June – this will allow succulents to root.

Plant Your Own Terrarium

Don’t miss out on 2017’s hottest gardening trend! Terrariums add a playful yet calming charm to any space & are sure to be a conversation piece with your friends. Participants will receive step-by-step instruction by Mill Creek Gardens’ staff on creating this small ecosystem while enjoying refreshments.

The cost of this workshop includes a choice of 2 plants – cacti, aloe, airplants, or succulents, and all the soil, sand, rocks, orchid bark, & charcoal needed to fill the terrarium.  Terrariums will be available for purchase, along with other hardscape materials.  You are welcome to bring your own terrarium – we encourage you to get creative!  Find an antique glass teapot or check out our local second-hand stores!  *Mill Creek Gardens reserves the right to adjust the price of the workshop when a larger than usual terrarium is planted – don’t worry, we will be reasonable!  Please call with any questions on size!*

Outside-the-Box Succulent Planter Workshop

It really is true that you can plant succulents in anything!  At this workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to use your creativity to plant something unique! Mill Creek Gardens will offer many different choices of planters at all price points – barnboard boxes, antique tool boxes, Tonka trucks, ceramic trays, and birdcages.  Do you have something at home that might be more interesting with succulents planted in it?!  Bring it in & make a masterpiece!

The cost of this workshop includes sphagnum moss to plant your succulents in, instruction on how to create & care for your masterpiece, & refreshments to enjoy while you create.  Participants will also enjoy sale prices on several succulent varieties!
