At Mill Creek, we believe that working with our hands is a therapeutic and healthy activity for all of us, no matter our age.  At our workshops, we work hard to ensure that you learn something new, make a friend, and leave feeling proud of what you’ve made!  Gardening shouldn’t be intimidating – it should be fun & life-giving!

Check-out our 2018 spring workshops below & simply RSVP via email or phone.  All workshop costs are due on the day of the workshop, no need to pay ahead!  We look forward to playing in the dirt with you!

Building the Perfect Planter

Saturday, April 21 10am – 12pm – RSVP by April 17

Cost: $20 for first planter + cost of flowers to fill planter (+$5 for each additional planter)

What to Bring: You are welcome to bring your own pot(s). We will also have pots available for purchase.

What to Wear: On a sunny day, our greenhouse can get pretty warm SO dress in layers & wear functional & comfortable shoes (tennis shoes, rain boots). Gardening gloves will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own!

Join us for a fun & interactive 2-hour workshop where you will learn to create a beautiful planter to accent your home! At this workshop, Mill Creek Gardens’ staff will offer great choices for sun & shade areas and share tips on how to keep your flowers blooming through fall. You will also learn about new flower varieties, the latest trends, & how to integrate them into your planter. You are welcome to bring your own pot and pots will also be available for purchase. The commercial grade slow-release fertilizer & pesticide (both included in cost of the workshop) will give your planter the jump-start & protection it needs to thrive through the season!

The cost of the workshop includes potting soil, slow-release fertilizer, pesticide, storage, care until warmer weather, expert instruction, & beverages. We recommend planter pick-up around Memorial Day – you’ll be amazed to see your beautiful, full planters! The cost of the workshop & plants will be due on the day of the workshop.

An Air Plant Social: Plant & Learn!

Saturday, April 21
Drop-in between 1pm and 5pm – No RSVP necessary

Cost: $8 + cost of display item of your choice

Air plants are such a fun play on the traditional houseplant. They might be something of a mystery to you now, but after attending our air plant social, you will be armed with all the knowledge to display and care for air plants!

At this workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to pick out your own air plant and find a unique way to display it. Mill Creek Gardens will offer many different choices of air plant displays & decor for purchase.

The cost of this workshop includes one medium-sized air plant, instruction on how to care for and display your plant, a care cheat sheet, & beverages to enjoy while you learn.

Living Succulent Wreath

11-inch Succulent Wreath – $65
13-inch Succulent Wreath – $80

Please join us for a fun & creative workshop to make your very own living succulent wreath. These succulent wreaths thrive through the summer & can be overwintered indoors to be enjoyed for many seasons to come! The cost of this workshop includes a wire wreath frame, sphagnum moss, succulent cuttings (enough to pack that sucker full!), step-by-step instruction, & refreshments. Mill Creek Gardens will store & care for your wreath at no additional charge until the first week in June – this will allow succulents to root.

A Succulent Social: Plant & Learn!

Saturday, May 5

Cost: $8 + cost of succulent plants

Succulents are all the rage – but are you nervous to plant your own? Or, are you a succulent lover who is looking for new varieties or unique ways to display them? Regardless of what camp you’re in, we think you’ll walk away from this social as a succulent specialist with a new beautiful garden!

At this workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to use your creativity to plant something unique with succulents! Mill Creek Gardens will offer many different choices of planters at all price points – ceramic trays, barnboard boxes, antique tool boxes, Tonka trucks, etc. Do you have something at home that might be more interesting with succulents planted in it?! Bring it in & make a masterpiece!

Mill Creek Gardens’ staff will present care tips and tricks to grow healthy succulents. You will also leave with our succulent cheat sheet for reference later!

The cost of this workshop includes sphagnum moss or dirt to plant your succulents in, instruction on how to create & care for your masterpiece, & beverages to enjoy while you create. Participants will also enjoy sale prices on several succulent varieties!

Plant Your Letter Succulent Planter

Sunday, May 6 – 1pm – 2:30pm – RSVP by April 26

Cost: $70

Looking for a fun way to display succulents or a unique gift for a friend? This custom succulent letter planter is handcrafted by a local carpenter with wood from Wisconsin trees!

At this workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to get your hands dirty and plant your letter! Mill Creek Gardens’ staff will guide you through every step of the craft process and offer care tips and tricks for healthy succulents. You will also leave with our succulent cheat sheet to reference later!

The cost of this workshop includes your custom reclaimed wood letter, sphagnum moss, chicken wire, & 16 succulent cuttings. Additional cuttings will also be available for purchase.  Beverages will be offered as you work!

Make Your Own Fairy Garden

Saturday, May 19 – 10am – 12pm – RSVP by May 15

Join us for a magical workshop to make your own fairy garden. At this workshop, you’ll exercise your creativity while making a beautiful, fairy wonderland.

The cost of the workshop includes two succulents, one fairy plant, one decorative fairy item (choice of micro schroomy, acorn birdhouse, beehive, or gazing globe), moss, & dirt. Additional fairy furnishings will be available for purchase. You are welcome to bring your own planter and unique planters will also be available for purchase.

Plant Your Own Terrarium

Sunday, May 20 – 12pm – 2pm – RSVP by May 17

Cost: $45

Don’t miss out on 2018’s hottest gardening trend! Terrariums add a playful yet calming charm to any space & are sure to be a conversation piece with your friends. Participants will receive step-by-step instruction by Mill Creek Gardens’ staff on creating this small ecosystem while enjoying beverages.

The cost of this workshop includes terrarium tools, a choice of 2 plants (cacti, airplants, or succulents) and all the soil, sand, rocks, orchid bark, & charcoal needed to fill the terrarium. Terrariums will be available for purchase, along with other hardscape materials. You are welcome to bring your own terrarium – we encourage you to get creative! Find an antique glass teapot or check out our local second-hand stores! *Mill Creek Gardens reserves the right to adjust the price of the workshop when a larger than usual terrarium is planted – don’t worry, we will be reasonable!
